LOCUSTS

The above images are from corners of the garden. It is taking a long, long time to realise my plans. However, by tackling a little at a time, I hope some parts (of what was a block covered in six foot high winter grass and weeds), are now flourishing.
This week the Perth area in Western Australia has been warned that swarms of locusts are heading in our direction.
Having lived here for five and a half years I am still adjusting to the varied insect life! I cope with Cockroaches, Flies, Red back spiders, Huntsman spiders, Portuguese millipedes, March flies, Mosquitoes and Saw fly larvae. ( WARNING these links are not for the faint of heart!).
Yet, I adore living here, truely I do.......but am I ready for swarms of locusts? Will my garden survive? I think I am going to need to be extremely stoical should locusts find our little half acre.

may those loctus never come near. Nice garden made with patience. So nice, the bugs want to make it home, aye.
:)
You have a nice garden patch there i hope the locust dont come your way.we have a saying in our house
"A good spider is a dead spider" My late Hubby was bitten by a red back and took a couple of months to recover from the bite.
Maybe the spiders will eat the locusts? Wish I had the discipline to cultivate a garden- thanks for sharing the pictures of yours.
Get some of them mormon seagulls in, then.
(Sorry, living in Utah that story of how the early settlers were about to lose their crop to locusts, and were saved because god sent flocks of seagulls to eat them all, a Miracle.)
Oh, how beautiful your little half acre. Tranquil, at least until the busy little locusts get there. I don't suppose throwing sheets over everything would help. Good luck.
Great take on the prompt!Wonderful photos. And I hope the locusts keep their distance. Reading about all those insects you're already coping with was quite enough! :)
Love your garden! The blue flowers are so delicate and beautiful!
Did chicken or goose eats locust?
Is this the a girl who, when she was about 10, refused to sit on the grass during a Cornish holiday "in case there were bugs" - bit of a change, huh?
I also remember when our Australian relations (P & J) came over to England to stay. After they left Mrs Avus (who is violently arachnophobic) found a large, black Huntsman spider on the hallway wall (primrose yellow - a lovely contrast!) It must have come over in their luggage. We ain't used to spiders of that size over here! (message for k-p: do NOT show Mrs Knowley these links!)
Nice to see you have now got bluebells (shame you cannot import the traditional English type, though). Here's me growing Jacarandas from the seed pods I brought home from Oz, but you could not take back bluebell pods from here - not fair.
Hope the locusts have passed you by.
Really good posts, thank you.
Oh Dear! Locusts, poor you.
Don't you just love Aussie in the wild - went for a walk with daughter the other day, sat on the bank of the river/estuary - beautiful day, feet dangling in the water - but we didn't think about Midges; and today I am dealing with a mess of itchy bits.
Love those Lists...
thanks

Attempt 5. Blogger just keeps flipping back to sign in. Finally I sign in and lose my comment - unless it has appeared over and over Herhimnbryn - in which case I'm sorry.
I'm mourning at the thought of locusts eating your beautiful garden. You are Spring and Summer for me as we head into the bleakness of winter. I can't stand the thought of your garden ravaged.
g. Welcome. So far, no locusts!
j. I have to say that the large spiders still give me the shivers!
r.c. I am constantly amazed that I do get out there and dig!
z. funnily enough, the Magpies here love to eat locusts. They eat so many thier crops fill up. Staggering around, the maggies look drunk!
v. No, sheets wouldn't help. But so far no locusts, so fingers crossed we have been spared.
pp. It seemed the perfect prompt today!
s. The blue flowers are Spanish Bluebells. The corms were given to me by a friend. they only took 3 wks from planting to flower.
a. Knew you'd mention that!
d. Am getting to love the wildlife.....very slowly!
lj. I think Blogger is not so subtly making it a little difficult for those of us who haven't gone across to Beta yet! I will get round to it, but typing is difficult at moment, due to 'tennis elbow' injury. Typing with one hand is too slow to do the change over at present.
So far garden is ok. Fingers crossed.
Your jardin is inviting, the stone path, the touch of blue bursting through! You have created a serene enviorment (spiders in the web are okay....high high above!)
Thans for sharing your garden art!
lol...nothing to eat in our back yard...all dry an dead!hope your lovely garden survives!
GG
Well, I didn't think sheets would work, but didn't like the garden sitting there helpless. Glad things are so far so good. The staggering magpie story made me laugh. I hope your elbow heals up beautifully.
Uh-oh. Locusts? Have they arrived yet, as I am checking in a few days after you posted this?
I hope they aren't as bad as predicted, because your garden looks luscious and stunning! You have quite a hand for aesthetics.
More please...
I hope the locusts veer off in a different direction, and don't do the damage that they can do to your garden.
You have a lovely garden, by the way.
Have a great week.
Take care, Meow
I dare not look at the creepy crawlies you link to!
Your garden looks so beautiful and brought a smile to my face. My garden is currently sinking... If the food water doesn't stop rising I won't have a garden by this evening!
tic. The garden has pretty 'corners' only at present. it's the only way i can cope with nature wanting to go bonkers all the time;)
gg. Well, we haven't seen the locusts yet. As I type the heavens have opened and it's raining. Hope that doesn't persuade them to veer in out direction
v. So far, we are ok. The elbow was helped with massage this afternoon. Thankyou for yr good wishes.
j. Am keeping everything crossed. Thankyou for the compliment;)
m. I hope so too! And thankyou.
v. hope your garden doesn't get flooded. Mind you rain on your boat roof ( with you INSIDE must sound divine)
UPDATE.... as of 1st dec, the locust have veered away from our area. Phew! But my thoughts are with the farmers who no doubt will be visited.
Whew I'm glad the locusts passed you. I remember a locust plague when I was a child - they were EVERYwhere. Awful.
You have a beautiful garden. Gives me hope that we will one day manage to tame ours a bit.
Good luck with the locusts. Sounds a bit Biblical!
